Needy Streamer Overload (stylized in all caps), initially released and known in Japan as Needy Girl Overdose, is a visual novel and management simulation game developed by WSS playground and xemono and published by WSS playground.

The game was released on Steam for Microsoft Windows and macOS on 21 January 2022, before having its Switch release occur several months later, on 27 October 2022. A port of the game for the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 was released on 21 January 2025, alongside the Internet Angel Pack.

Synopsis

NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD is a “multi-ending ADV” depicting daily life with “OMGkawaiiAngel-chan”, a young girl with a rather extreme need for approval attempting to become the #1 “Internet Angel” (streamer). Gradually build up OMGkawaiiAngel-chan’s number of followers as she spends her days streaming, using various ”stress relievers”, and generally being kinda messed up. Experience all the different crazy ups and downs and find out for yourself whether this story is even capable of having a happy ending.

Official synopsis on Steam[1]

Gameplay

The game follows Ame-chan and the player, P-chan, who is her partner and producer. The goal is to get one million followers before 30 days are up. Every day, through a cutesy Windows 95-esque user interface, P-chan can decide what activities Ame-chan does every day in order to grasp new ideas for streams, which will also raise or lower three stats in very different ways: stress, affection, and mental darkness. Those stats are tracked through the Task Manager. The player also needs to respond to Ame-chan through JINE.

Ame-chan can only stream at night. During her live streams, the player has the role of a content moderator tasked with deleting inappropriate comments (super chat donations are untouched though) or highlighting them for Ame to read. Streaming is the main way of increasing her follower count, the most "important" stat and entire reason of the game.

At the end of every activity or stream, Ame will post on Tweeter pertaining to them in her main persona public account KAngel, and her private account, the latter in which she will usually express her real thoughts. Each day is also split into three stages (Noon, Dusk, and Night) and every activity takes up one or two stages. Ame's stats will directly influence what of the 26 endings the player receives.

Characters

Ame-chan / OMGkawaiiAngel-chan

P-chan

P-chan is the player character's self-insert. They have no gender, design or name. They are shown to be the significant other of Ame-chan.

Trivia

  • The English version's name was originally meant to be called NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE as well as its Japanese counterpart, but this was changed because of the mention of drug use in the word, 'overdose'.
    • In the logo of "Needy Streamer Overload", the words (or parts of words) "STREAMER" and "LOAD", which have different fonts, look like as if they were written over the words "GIRL" and "DOSE" respectively. In the original logo of "Needy Girl Overdose", the font and style are consistent across all of the words.
      • A less common alternative version of the "Needy Streamer Overload" logo has the words "Streamer" and "Load" in a pixel font. It has been used as the cover art for some updates.[2] It was also the original logo that was going to be used, before the worldwide release of the game.[3]
  • The main processor of the Windows-themed interface is named "raincandy", alluding to the two different meanings of Ame-chan's name; Rain, and Candy, respectively.
  • In the PC version of the game, sexual references are rarely censored (aside mainly from the Sex/*** option from Hang Out) and medication is explicitly shown. However, for consoles (the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5), sexual references are censored and medication is replaced by magicals.
