Weapons
In Endless Nightmare, there are mainly two weapons that are used by Ame-chan: the chainsaw and the knife. The chainsaw is used for melee attacks and can be charged to unlock additional functionalities, while the knife is used for ranged attacks.
Chainsaw
The Chainsaw is the main weapon that is used by Ame-chan. It is a tool that has multiple functionalities, one of them being performing melee attacks.
Functionalities
Melee attacks
The main functionality of the chainsaw is to perform melee attacks on enemies and bosses, as well as to damage nearby leaves and vines. Players can perform up to three consecutive melee chainsaw attacks to an enemy at once, with increasing damages, by pressing J. Furthermore, jumping by pressing W/Spacebar, then by pressing J mid-air, will allow the player to perform an aerial melee attack, which would deal the same amount of damage as the third chainsaw attack. For example, if the player was level 1, the consecutive attacks would deal 25, then 30, then 35 damage, and the aerial attack would also deal 35 damage. Note that doing consecutive chainsaw attacks will slightly deplete stamina.
Charging
Another major functionality that comes with the chainsaw is the concept of charging, which is activated by holding J, then pressing any of the available control combinations that come with charging. Holding J alone won't really do anything, and in fact, would de-activate the charge once the player stops holding J, but holding J, then a different available key, would allow the player to perform an additional functionality, including, but not limited to:
- Charged movement attacks
- Wall climbing
- Sprinting
All of these functionalities are hinted by the pien cat in Stage 2. They all deplete stamina upon usage, as charging itself depletes stamina.
Charged movement attacks
Charged movement attacks are activated by pressing D or A (while charging.) They are used to automatically destroy leaves and vines in the way, as well as to damage enemies, albeit with very low damage of 2 and a maximum damage of 10.
Wall climbing
Wall climbing is a functionality that allows for Ame-chan to vertically climb "charged" walls with the use of her chainsaw. It is activated by pressing W (while charging.)
This functionality allows for damaging enemies that are on these walls. Among all of the different types of chainsaw attacks, charged wall climb deal the most damage, at 40 damage being dealt at level 1, if the enemies are hit directly with the chainsaw, and 160 at max level.
Note that while wall climbing, the player can jump to the other side by pressing D/A and Spacebar.
Sprinting
Sprinting is a functionality that allows for Ame-chan to sprint with her chainsaw. It is activated by pressing S (while charging.)
This functionality allows for damaging enemies that are on the floor (if the enemies are hit directly with the chainsaw), though it just deals 20 damage at level 1, and 80 damage at max level.
Damages
The amount of damage that is dealt with from the chainsaw will depend on the type of attack performed. In the series of consecutive chainsaw attacks, the damages will add up for each attack and the aerial attack deals the same amount of damage as the third consecutive attack. Furthermore, all of these damages depend on the current level/gauge. For example, in the first consecutive attack, the damage would normally be 25 if the player was at level 1, but this would be multiplied by 2 if the player was level 2, multiplied by 3 if the player was level 3, and so on.
The following is a table of chainsaw attacks and damages, as well as their levels:
Type of attack | Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | MAX Level |
---|---|---|---|---|
First consecutive chainsaw attack | 25 | 50 | 75 | 100 |
Second consecutive chainsaw attack | 30 | 60 | 90 | 120 |
Third consecutive chainsaw attack | 35 | 70 | 105 | 140 |
Aerial chainsaw attack | 35 | 70 | 105 | 140 |
Charged wall climb attack | 40 | 80 | 120 | 160 |
Chard crouch attack | 20 | 40 | 60 | 80 |
Charged chainsaw attack by movement | 2 | 5 | 8 | 10 |
Notes
- Sometimes, wall jump and crouch attacks may deal just 2 damage to enemies. This is because of the fact that the player is not necessarily directly hitting them with those attacks, but rather more passively while they are moving with their chainsaw.
- Although not mentioned by the pien cat in the tutorials, if the player did not charge themselves, they can perform a crouch kick (not to be confused by the chainsaw crouch/sprint attack) by pressing S first and then J. The crouch kick allows the player to move to their current horizontal direction while performing damage. It is not a very efficient attack, however, as it only deals 2 damage.
Controls
As the Chainsaw has multiple functionalities, the following is a table summarizing multiple controls pertained to each of the functionalities:
Key | Action |
---|---|
J | Swing chainsaw once |
J x2 | Swing chainsaw twice |
J x3 | Swing chainsaw three times in a row |
W/Spacebar + J (mid-air) | Aerial melee attack to the floor |
J (held) | Charge chainsaw |
J (held) + D/A | Attack with charged chainsaw |
J (held) + W/Spacebar (near a climbable wall) | Wall climb (where available) |
J (held) + S | Sprint with chainsaw |
D/A + Spacebar | Jump to the other side (while wall climbing) |
S + J | Crouch kick |
Trivia
- This chainsaw, in particular, seems to be based on the one seen from the Nerdy Girl Overload ending in Needy Streamer Overload.
- This is determined by the fact that the appearance of the chainsaw is most obvious during the "stage clear" or "game over" screens, where it has a pink handle and a silver blade. Furthermore, the edges of the blade are cyan when charged.

Knife
The Knife is the secondary weapon that is used by Ame-chan. It is a ranged projectile weapon that can damage enemy blobs and bosses at a distance, as well as destroying leaves and vines. It is activated by pressing K.
Damages
By default (at level 1), the damage dealt by each knife is 15. However, with each leveled up gauge, at levels 2, 3, and 4 (max), the damage dealt by each knife would be multiplied by their levels, dealing a total of 30, 45, and 60 damage, respectively.
Notes
- The Knife can be used as a tool for activating toggles, some of which would otherwise be out of reach, just like the first toggle seen in Stage 1.
- Continuously using the Knife would slightly deplete stamina for each knife used.
